| The Spotlight is on Baby Adoptions |
|
|
The recent attention on adoptions that celebrities like Madonna,
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have brought about, in my opinion, is a
wonderful thing. Anything that shines a spotlight on the issues that
can positively affect the lives of children. And to be sure, giving a
child the opportunity to be raised in a loving home is a wondrous
thing.
We are all aware that there are thousands of children and babies in the world that have no parents, for whatever reason, and that they need to be adopted so that they can have a better life and a secure beginning.
It isn’t possible to find homes for all of these children, but baby adoptions have been in the news a lot lately, and this is thanks to celebrities. Even though I am glad they are putting the spotlight on adoption, I have a hard time dealing with how they are going about doing it.
I think children are children all over the world. I don’t care what race or religion they might be. Children are all innocents and should be treated as such. There are many celebrities that are adopting children from other parts of the world.
These are places they have never been before and may never see again. I don’t mind that they are encouraging baby adoptions, I have a problem with them not realizing that charity should begin at home.
Perhaps I am wrong here, but I think if you want to save the world, you may want to start in your own back yard. Yes, America seems to be a privileged nation and I certainly have nothing to complain about, but people seem to forget that there are many people and children in our own nation that need help. Why are our children not good enough for baby adoptions? Just because these children are from America doesn’t mean they have any better chances of making a good life than any one else in the world. If you don’t think this is true, you have not taken a good look at your own country. There are high cost baby adoptions going on, but they are generally only for newborns. Older babies and children are often forgotten. Baby adoptions should be about love, and it should be about making the world a better place. If celebrities want to partake in baby adoptions in other parts of the world, they should do so as quietly as possible.
I realize this isn’t always their choice, but they should try to keep it quiet. Baby adoptions that are news seem to be sensationalized and appear to be going on for the wrong reasons. Remember that there are babies and children everywhere you desperately need a home, and you don’t have to jet off across the globe to find them.
